Explore the Mahakam River springs in the 1500 to 2000 meter high Müller Range, not too far from the border with Sarawak. The heart of Borneo Muller Mountain range occupied a dozen of small Dayak settelements along the several dangerous rapids. Transport traffic limits through the dangerous rapids besides a few very well experienced captains of canoes and longboats, make basic live goods extensively expensive. The Dayak people mainly live from agriculture ( ladang cultures ) and hunting the forest, with incidental income of birds nests, and penny the river for gold.
Day 01: BALIKPAPAN (--D)
Upon arrival at Sepinggan airport in Balikpapan meeting service then transfer by car to check in Hotel, for dinner and overnight.
Day 02: BALIKPAPAN, DATA DAWAI, TIONG OHANG (BLD)
After breakfast, by canoe sailing the River into Balikpapan Bay, to spot Proboscis Monkeys, and birds, transfer to Balikpapan airport for your onward flight to Data Dawai at the upper Mahakam River, in te heart f Borneo, upon arrival at the air strip, we will cruise down the Mahakam River to the Dayak settlement Tiong Ohang, the beautiful scenery of karst rocks standing strait in the sky with the emerald dense jungle, is the first glimps of the adventure which await us the comming days, overnight at home-stay.
Day 03: TIONG OHANG JUNGLE & CAVE (BLD)
After breakfast, short sightseeing in Tiong Ohang Village, possibility to trek a rocky mountain to visit the people who live in the cave, or visit the outer parts of the village where people live quite and peace full with the nature, here you can enjoy the sounds of the primary jungle, and enjoy the primitive life, without any facility, overnight at simple hut
Day 04: TIONG OHANG TRADIONAL GOLD MINING (BLD)
After breakfast, you can enjoy the river side with a cup of coffee to start the day, before we prepare to trek to a smaller river where the local community search for gold by penny the gold out of water stream of the river with a rotan plate, we will set up a base camp in the jungle, can do trekkings or do some search for gold with the locals.
Day 05: TIONG OHANG HEAD HUNTING (BLD)
Simple Breakfast, and trek to an Ancient place of the Dayak Tribe, which was used rituals of head hunting and is still a preserved and mystic place for the community, please don't touch anything as respect to the spirit to the jungle and community of the Dayak. Lunch and continue trek passing the waterfall to Tiong Ohang Village, for overnight at Local house
Day 06: TIONG OHANG, LONG PAHANGAI (BLD)
Breakfast in Tiong Ohang village, pack our stuff and leave the village by speedboat to Long Pahangai. Long Pahangai is known of it's body art, here you can find the Long Ear and Tatoo woman of the Dayak Tribe, short sightseeing at village, trek to the waterfall, to set up our camp side and try to catch fish for our dinner. Overnight at jungle camp
Day 07: LONG PAHANGAI, MAHAKAM RIVER, MELAK (BLD)
After simple breakfast downstream Mahakam River by long boat,we will pass the several rapids between the high lime stone rocks, standing strait in the sky, with beautifull waterfalls, and jungle scenery, arrival at Tering harbor by car to hotel in Melak for dinner and overnight.
Day 08: MELAK, KERSIK LUWAY ORCHIDS, MARATUA NABUCCO ISLAND RESORT (BLD)
Breakfast at hotel, visit Kersik Luway flora park know for its wild orchid species and pitcher plants, if lucky the famous black orchid can be seen, afterwards to Melak airport to board the plane which will fly us to Maratua Island as part of the Derawan Archipelago at the coast of East Kalimantan, by speed boat transfer to Nabucco Island resort to check in at your beach cottage under the palm trees, dinner at Nabucco Restaurant.
Day 09-11: NABUCCO ISLAND RESORT (BLD)
Relax Breakfast with a beautiful scenery over the crystal blue lagoon sea, from your cottage at the white palm beach, possibility to swim or snorkel, or chilling at this bounty paradise island resort, lunch and dinner served.
Day 12: NABUCCO ISLAND RESORT, BERAU (B--)
Breakfast at resort, free at own leisure, until transfer time by speedboat to Berau harbor, and transfer to Berau airport where you can catch your flight to connect to your next destination.
